Power of the other halves

NST today says ...

Ignore women and suffer the losses

" ... There are views that Wanita Umno is quite shy in making a political stand on major national issues such as education reforms, the Bumiputera economic agenda or law and order ..."

... women are not concerned about rokok ...

... neither are they concerned about AES ...

... obviously they are not affected much by both ...

... are they not the ones to tell the menfolk at home ... nak merokok pergi jauh-jauh jangan dalam rumah  ... we built bangku panjang bawah pokok rambutan ke ... pokok durian ke ... and merokoklah puas-puas di situ ... tak main lah gazebo-gazebo ni ...

... are they not the ones that cause impatient male species on the road to rave and rant ... oiiiii slownya ... so AES ke apa ke ... carry on ...

BUT

... they are not happy when budget rumah, suami tak dapat tambah ... tetapi belanja dapur makin bertambah
...

... they are not happy ... when anak-anak dah graduate ... tetapi masih tak dapat kerja tetap ...

...

... they are not happy ... when nak bersalin ... kalau ke hospital awam ... kena suruh balik semula sebab baby masih tak ada mood nak tengok dunia yang penuh pancaroba ... dan katil hospital tak cukup nak bagi tunggu-tunggu sehari dua ni ...

SO

... buat apa buang masa pergi mengundi ... when it makes no difference to their lives ... orang perempuan cepat menyampah ... "tak kisah" is their defence ...

... For our ladies who toiled the other half of the earth ... SELAMAT HARI RAYA QURBAN ...we love you ...

MORE DEMAND: Focus to be on water and soil management to raise output

.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar (centre) says the government needs to allocate more money for food as the population is growing.
KUALA LUMPUR: THE Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry is seeking a bigger allocation in 2013 Budget to enhance the country's food security.
Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said yesterday the government needed to allocate more money as the population was growing.
"Under the National Agro-Food Policy, we will try to strengthen food security by focusing on water and soil management next year."
Noh was speaking at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here organised by the Farmers' Organisation Authority.
Later, during the organisation's retirement and long service award presentation ceremony, its chairman, Datuk Zainal Dahalan, echoed Noh's statement.
"We need extra allocations to enhance and improve the current infrastructure as the demand for agriculture products is growing."
Zainal said with instability suffered by several food-producing countries, Malaysia needed to strengthen its food security.
The organisation's director-general, Datuk Arpan Shah Satu, suggested that the government should help train more progressive farmers.
"The organisation needs a bigger allocation because we intend to give the farmers loans instead of grants.
"This will help them to expand their business and come out with better products," he said.
About 90 retirees and 33 long service employees received certificates of appreciation from Zainal.
Meanwhile, the Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) hoped that next year's budget would give special attention to efforts to generate economic growth for smallholders.
MPOB chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said despite various steps taken by the government in providing assistance to smallholders, including oil palm replantation, there were other sections of the industry that needed attention.
The government was urged to encourage smallholders to become members of local cooperatives so they could reap more benefits from their produce.
"There are still smallholders in Malaysia who are not members of any cooperatives and they prefer to work individually.
"However, this prevents them from receiving aid such as fertiliser, replanting of palm oil trees and loans for buying equipment.
"At the same time, the cost of building roads to oil palm plantations is high and most smallholders cannot afford them, causing delay in mobilising work in the plantations.
"As a result, production suffers," Shahrir said yesterday.
He proposed that the government provide special incentives in the form of "specific encouragement" to smallholders so they could start building roads into their plantations.
Shahrir, who is also Johor Bahru member of parliament, lauded the government's action in planning future advancements for the growth of the plantation industry.
He said this effort should be stepped up in order to ensure that smallholders were able to generate higher income.
Prior to this, Deputy Plantation, Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin also made a recommendation to oil palm smallholders to form local cooperatives to earn more income.
He said local smallholders should look at the success of Indonesian smallholders, who had outperformed plantation companies.
Hamzah said oil palm smallholders in Malaysia only accounted up to 39.3 per cent of the country's total palm oil production.

Back to basic, a purpose, a destination ...

JOINT DEVELOPMENT: Independent trading terminal in Johor to spur industry's growth

With him are (seated, from left) National Instruments Asean managing director Chandran Nair, Avenion Companies group president and Green Purchasing Network Malaysia president Datuk Seri Izmee Che Ismail, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Pemandu chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, (standing, from left) Human Resources Development Fund chief executive officer Amirnuddin Mazlan, United Plantations Bhd executive director Datuk Carl Bek Nielsen, Dialog Group Bhd executive chairman Dr Ngau Book Keat, Medical Devices Corporation director Loke Khing Hong, Ranbaxy Malaysia chief executive officer and managing director Arun Sawhney and Department of Skills Development director-general Pang Chau Leong. PUTRAJAYA: DIALOG Group Bhd, an integrated oil and gas service provider, expects to invest up to RM10 billion to develop an independent oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Pengerang, Johor.
Its executive chairman, Ngau Boon Keat, said the terminal and storage facilities would be built on an 200ha site in Pengerang.
"We are proposing the project in this area as we feel that it is strategically located and the proposed site is near Singapore," he said after the unveiling of seven more entry point projects (EPPs) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak here yesterday.
Dialog Group's RM4.08 billion LNG terminal is one of the seven EPPs to be developed under the government's Economic Transformation Programme.
Under the proposed project, a consortium, comprising Dialog Group, the Johor government and Royal Vopak, will jointly develop an LNG storage, loading and regasification terminal to import LNG for trading purposes as well as for domestic consumption.
Ngau said the terminal would be the first independent LNG trading terminal in Asia, which would allow multiple LNG users to store and trade the product to spur the industry's growth and establish Malaysia as an LNG trading hub in the region.
He also said the terminal would consist of two phases -- Phase 1 would be built between next year and 2016, and Phase 2 between next year and 2018.
He said the project was expected to contribute RM557 million to the country's gross national income and create some 100 new jobs up to 2020.
On protests by villagers and non-governmental organisations towards the project in Pengerang, Ngau said they should ask themselves why there were already such facilities, including refineries, in other places and parts of the world.
"Why was there no protest when we built refineries in Port Dickson or petrochemical plants in Kerteh? In fact, some of these facilities have been running since the 1960s.
"Why the fuss now? We are investing to help the economy grow and provide jobs for the locals."

Thinking

Interviewed an indigenous student yesterday. The student was from an OA community in the southern state. Intelligent, bright and cheerful.

But this is another issue. Just visited a blog where the student's tribe's name was mentioned as an analogy to being naive, unskilled and uncultured.

From the interview, it occurs to me that indeed we are the ones that are not aware that many in the OA communities have transited considerably into this new millenium, with better ICT awareness and skills. No doubt there are issues with school attendance and engagement. But I would not want those that have moved forward forever labelled and lumped as ignorant ...

CTRL V

I am sure IT people will recognise this function immediately.

A real novice (where IT was concerned)  when I started with a consulting group working on a HRMIS project. The Project Manager however appreciated that gap. So being a faster "typist" he would sometimes typed while I dictated the documentation requirement off my head. Especially when 'due' was becoming "critically urgent".

Mostly, I was slowed down by the "Edit" function. To make changes, I would click on "Edit". For instance, to COPY and PASTE, I would click on EDIT, COPY, and PASTE.

I was watching him using the faster method. How did you do that ... I asked.

Easy ... he said. To COPY you just highlight the sentence, then press Ctrl C. To CUT, same but press Ctrl X

Okay, that's easy to remember ... I responded. Ctrl C for Control Copy. Ctrl X for Control Out - X for unwanted.

Then to PASTE must be Ctrl P ... I extrapolated cleverly ...

No, no, no ... he quickly denied my intelligent extrapolation.

To PASTE, you use Ctrl V ... he answered ... fingers meanwhile busy on the keyboard, mind on the completion of the report ... while teaching me the inconsequential at the same time ... multitasking of modern professional.

Ctrl V? ... I was puzzled ... why not Ctrl P for Control Paste? I was not happy with this anomaly.

Okay ... Ctrl V ... for ... CONTROL VUT (rhyme with Control Put) he answered.

Now, do you think, I will ever forget this lesson? ...

Jangan Suka Merayau

Lesson Learned

Was trying to update the design template for this blog. Normally when I did this, I could easily return to my original if I don't fancy the new design. But pada hari yang satu itu, cuba pula "dynamic view" ... never, never again ... at least until I can get the hang of this properly.

That view must be untuk orang yang dah terlebih pandai. So being novice, duduk diam-diam.

Now how I get back to this simple and more user-friendly view.

I thought I will start with my email. Since that e-mail was created wholly, solely for creating this blog, maka tak pernahlah dijenguk. Kena pula reactivate.

Okay, sudah reactivate. Tak juga jumpa pintu masuk this blog.

So I thought forget about it. Just create a new one and transfer content to the new blog. Creating new blogs ni dah mahir lah sikit. Different blogs for different audience.

I google (d) how to create a new blog. Lo and behold ... terjumpa pintu masuk Blog ni. AlhamduLILLAH.

Now revert to SIMPLE TEMPLATE and STAY PUT!

Di Dalam Sebuah Ladang Kelapa Sawit Yang Besar

Ini yang ku temui. Di suatu pagi yang nyaman. Menyusur sebatang jalan.

Jalan estate. With pot holes.

Ku temui pekerja-pekerja yang di datangkan dari luar negara untuk mengusahakan ladang.

Ku temui sebuah perkampungan Orang Asli.

Ku lihat seorang bapa mendukung anak kecilnya. Dua lagi anak berdiri disisinya.

Nothing special you say. Yes. But the father is tall. Hidung mancung. Serupa juga pekerja-pekerja yang di temui awal tadi.

Ku temui sebuah sekolah rendah. Moden.  Di tengah kampung yang masih di zamannya.

Teringat suasana kampung di awal 60an.

But this is the new millenium.

Dua dunia yang berbeza. Dalam satu suasana.

Yes. Malaysia. Dengan warnanya.

My Bank Islam

3 cases:

Case1. Lady A is a  retailer in a hypermarket. She has been in business for almost 6 years here. Business hours: 9.30am - 10.00pm daily. Shop is allowed to close for public holidays only 2 days in a year. Daily receipts must be banked in daily after closing. The main reason is the need to cover various cheques issued to suppliers. She has accounts with BANK ISLAM, since ... ever. Now, several bank-in facilities (Cash Deposit Machines) are available in the vicinity but not of BANK ISLAM. Staff must bank-in daily. For a couple years numerous suggestions and feedback were forwarded through various means (feedback forms addressed direct to the CEO, direct feedback to the managers, the bank's facebook) to BANK ISLAM. But to no avail. Despite this, Lady A said to herself - sabar, sabar. Nak buat yang elok memang susah. Banyak dugaan. Kalau kita tak support BANK ISLAM, siapa lagi - maka sabarlah tahun demi tahun. Manager bank pun berkata yang cawangan akan di wujudkan soon, tahun depan, pertengahan tahun, awal tahun, tahun demi tahun. Lady said, the micro and small businesses just need a cash deposit machine (CDM) for banking in, that's all. Finally, the Lady gave up and start looking for an introducer to open another account with a bank close by. MAYBANK to be specific. And that led to Gentleman B.

Case 2. Gentleman B is also a retailer in the same hypermarket. He is a successful Franchisee to a leading Franchisor. And has been in the market for more than 10 years. When Lady A requested him for an introduction to the bank, he expressed his shock - you are still with BANK ISLAM? Saya dah lama give up...I've account with both RHB and MAYBANK.

Case 3: Gentleman C is a retailer/wholesaler in the same locality. Also supports BANK ISLAM. Now, he is also finding it necessary to open a current account with MAYBANK. He requested Lady A for an introduction ...to MAYBANK.

Lessons Learned:

1. The requirements of Micro and Small Businesses are important considerations that BANK ISLAM should not overlook. They are an important part of BANK ISLAM's community to support the move towards a more independent ummah.

2. Bank managers stated that their hands are tied. Their views are not strongly considered, so it is best that customers write in themselves to be considered. However based upon the above, it can be concluded that even the customers' voices are not going through. Now, what does customer-centric and customer-centred approach means.

3. Excluding the feedback and sabar grace period, the above incidents occurred within these past 3 months. And it is not even a formal research!...

4. Finally, I just wish for Tan Sri Ismail Adam (BANK ISLAM's Board Member) to read this. Why Tan Sri? Because he was previously of  National Productivity Centre and hopefully would understand customer need better.  Let's see. Terima Kasih to the reader who leads this to him.

May BANK ISLAM learns the art of listening and responding.

Terima Kasih.

Kemungkinan

Salam Semua,

Muka yang manakah yang ingin kita tunjukkan.

Muka yang kita lihat dicermin itu samakah dengan muka yang kita halakan ke umum.

Benar belakakah kita ini.

Tepatkah perkataan kita.

Bersihkah denyut-denyut nafas yang mengiringi pertuturan kita.

Biarkan air mengalir terus, jangan diempang dengan kemungkinan.

Terima kasih

Kalau

Satu perkataan yang mencetuskan pelbagai emosi...

'Kalau' itu hanya sebutir perkataan.

Umpama Pisau, sebutir alat... buat menghiris daun dan ulaman...
penyedap rasa ... penambah selera... pembuka bicara...

Begitulah 'Kalau'...

Emosi menjadi Rasional apabila:

1. 'Kalau' yang bersandarkan perkara yang sudah berlaku, menjadi "lessons learned" untuk penambahbaikan berterusan (continuous improvement); ( Pengurusan Kualiti, Pengurusan Projek).

2. 'Kalau' yang bersandarkan perkara yang belum berlaku, menjadi alat (tool) untuk "scenario planning" ... beyond that of strategic planning...

3. 'Kalau' digunakan dalam aliran carta (flow charts) for the various options when conditions are not met.

Yang menjadi Emosi, apabila ,Kalau' digunakan untuk mencari kesalahan dan sebagai alat untuk tuduh menuduh... as in " Kalau you tak buat perkara itu, this thing would not have happenned."

Atau, 'Kalau' yang menyemarak emosi di kedai kopi...'Kalau' yang sangat merugikan diri dan anak bangsa...
